Fact, Opinion and Annoyance

So which is it, Mr. President?

The President has been selling his mortgage bailout on the idea that if we don’t pay our neighbors’ mortgages, they’ll foreclose and it will hurt the value of our own home.  So if our neighbor was irresponsible or even dishonest in how they obtained their home, we have to swallow the bitter pill of giving them money to save ourselves.

Then last night, he claimed that only those who “deserve” help will get it.  Besides the fact that we have no idea how it is to be determined who “deserves” to keep their house vs. who doesn’t, it is a complete departure from the rhetoric of the past week.

And while the whole thing goes completely against my free-market principles in the first place, I might be able to at least understand where the President is coming from, if he could make up his mind about where that is.

So which is it, Mr. President?
